Yahoo Email Problems
There are a number of factors that could cause difficulties with POP and
SMTP access, and you'll find most of them outlined below. We realize
this message is long, but please read all of the information -- it is
very likely that the solution to your situation is below.
1. If you are unable to send Yahoo! Mail from an email client, please
try checking for new messages before you attempt to send messages.
To prevent unauthorized mail from being sent through our system, we require
that users log into our POP servers before they may access our SMTP
servers to send mail.
Note that it is not necessary to actually download messages. As long as
an attempt is made to retrieve mail, sending mail will be permitted. If
you are not able to send after you have attempted to receive messages,
you may need to move messages out of the Outbox, then attempt to receive
again before you attempt to send.
2. Log into your web-based account to ensure that your password has not
changed. To check this out, go to:
http://mail.yahoo.com
IMPORTANT: If you have problems logging into your web-based account,
please respond and let us know the exact error message that appears.
3. If you are able to log in to your web-based account with the password
you are attempting to use with your email client, please ensure that
you've told us that you want to receive Yahoo! Delivers special offers.
Click on "Options" in Yahoo! Mail and then click Yahoo! Delivers. Make
sure the "Yes" button is checked and click "Submit".
4. Please ensure that you have selected the option for POP access on the
Mail Delivery Status page. To check this, log into your account, then
click Options, and then "POP Access & Forwarding". You will not receive
POP access if you have selected the "Forwarding" option. These are
separate features that cannot be used at the same time.
5. There may be a mistake in your client settings. Please ensure that
you have configured your email client with the settings below. For
information on entering these settings into various email clients, go
to:
http://help.yahoo.com/help/mail/pop/index.html
-Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop.mail.yahoo.com (Port 110)
-Outgoing (SMTP) Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com (Port 25)
-Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail name in lowercase (your
address without the "@yahoo.com")
***If the full email address is entered in this field (with the
"@yahoo.com"), it will not be possible to download mail. This is a
common mistake. Please ensure that you have entered the Yahoo! Mail name
only.
-E-mail address: Your Yahoo! Mail address in lowercase (i.e.
user@yahoo.com)
Note to users of international Yahoo! Mail accounts:
Your incoming and out going mail server settings may be slightly
different from those listed above. The last part of your mail server
settings will always be the same as the domain (the part of your email
address after the @ sign) of your account. For example, if your email
address is user@yahoo.co.uk, your POP settings will be as follows:
-Incoming Mail (POP3) Server pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk
-Outgoing (SMTP) Server smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk
6. You may have selected an incompatible login method or server type
when you set up your email client. To check your settings, please follow

If you double-check the items above but continue to have problems
receiving messages, your difficulty is most likely caused by issues
specific to your local network. If you connect to the Internet using a
LAN with a proxy server or a firewall, you may need special settings to
access external mail servers. For further information, please contact
your LAN administrator.
If you double-check the items above but continue to have problems
sending messages, it is very likely that your ISP may block connections
to external outgoing mail servers. To clarify this, please ask your ISP,
whether they allow users to send mail from SMTP servers that are not on
their network. If not, you will need to enter your ISP's outgoing mail
server in place of Yahoo!'s outgoing mail server in your email client.
Please let us know if you have further questions. If you reply to this
