Setup Procedures for 3.x

Software Installation:
This install guide does not show each window that is displayed during the installation.
Read each of the windows during the installation process. They are very informative.

1.  Make sure you're in Windows with no programs running.  Insert the CWIA Software Installer
Disk One into your floppy drive.  Select the File menu and select "Run".   A window will pop up and in this window type "A:\setup" and click the OK button.
Note:  If by chance your floppy drive is not setup as an "A" drive then substitute the appropriate letter, i.e. B:\setup

Read the Internet Explorer License Agreement if you wish and click the I Accept button to continue with the installation. Next you will see a window welcoming you to the Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.1 to continue, click OK and follow the instructions on the screen throughout the installation.

2.  At this window choose "Complete".  If you are familiar with the Internet and wish to install either the dialer or the browser seprately you can do so by choosing Custom.

3.  Make sure that Don't detect my modem is not checked.  This will let the software automatically detect your modem.  Note:  If the software is not able to automatically detect your modem then you may choose the Standard 14000 or Standard 28000 modem or whichever applies to your modem.

4.   You will be asked for your area code and a whether or not you have to dial a number to dial out (common in offices with many phone lines).  Note:  If you need to enter a number to dial out then make sure that you also place a comma after the number.  This tells the modem to pause before dialing the phone number.

Connection Setup:

Now that your software is installed, you need to setup the dialer with a connection to CWIA. Once setup properly, connecting to CWIA is just a double click away.

5.  Double click on the New Connection icon.  The Create New Connection window will show and ask you for a connection name.  We recommend that you name the new connection CWIA for CompuWorld.

6.  At this window you enter your account information as specified to you when you signed up. Don't forget to temporarily disable call waiting by entering your disable code (usually "*70" or "*71") and a comma before the phone number.   Call your local phone service provider for that code.  An example would look like this:  "*70,282-0070" not including the quotation marks. Internet Access.  Follow along with the on screen instructions.

7.  Next click on the Properties button and click the Domain Name tab to show this dialog window. This dialog window is where you will tell the dialer what server to use after your user name has been authenticated with your password (as setup in step6..

You will need to fill in the Domain Name and the Primary and Secondary DNS fields.   Also, the Server assigned IP address option should be selected, as shown.   After entering these, click OK to get back to the Connect To window shown in step 6.  At this point you can click on the Connect button to connect to CWIA and from this point on, you can double click on this newly create connection to connect to our internet servers.

Once the connection is successfully established you can use whatever Internet software you wish, such as a web browser or email software.
